How Much is that Doggie in the Window?
The reality is that it translates to a lot more than just price. Impulse buying is something that seems to run ramp-it with many people. I myself have been overcome by it, many times in various situations and I will admit that it is quite enjoyable. BUT, it is something that I do not recommend to anyone when it comes to animals, especially purchasing a dog.
The presence of an absolutely beautiful K9 and more so that of an adorable looking puppy will naturally make a lot of people very interested in getting one, without totally considering the full obligations that one assumes once you join the ranks of fellow dog owners. Though, I am certainly not trying to discourage anyone from going out and getting a dog. I just want to make it very clear - it takes a lot of work and time, more than what a novice might very well assume and even for many of us experienced dog owners; not every dog is the same and not every breed is alike...
Our normal day to day routine will now change, consisting of responsibility over something else along with an unwritten agreement for a lifetime obligation of a living thing that will be 100% dependent on us. Dogs don't prepare their own meals, don't take themselves to the bathroom (at least not in the terms that most will be happy with) and they don't move out or go away to college.
Lately I have been receiving large amounts of emails and calls regarding immediate request for Cockapoo puppies. The popularity of the Cockapoo has grown to such a large proportion that most people view them as an item to have. While the whole designer breed thing as been discussed and continues to feed the force behind such breeds as the Cockapoo, lets be clear a desire to own something just because it is fashionable, is just not appropriate. One must examine their lifestyle and personality before deciding to add a dog to their life and then find a breed to match.
There are many dog varieties available today than ever before. Unfortunately, many of the purebreds succumb to numerous hereditary diseases. As for the new breeds or the designer breeds, many are just being bred to meet the demand. More importantly the breeders of most of these dogs have no set goals or desire for a purposeful future. The modern day dog owner and owners to be are researching their options very carefully when it comes to dogs. They are paying close attention to all the hidden facts that come into play after one has taken ownership. Most of these new owners to be, desire a dog that comes with a pedigree and a history. They also want a dog that is going to be worth the investment in the long run, they know that if they chose certain breeds that they can expect to be at the Veterinarian more times than what is normal. Also the breed might not live to a ripe old age- without any major health issues along the way. Therefore, Cockapoo owners soon realize that they made a wise choice in adding one to their family, given careful selection of the appropriate line and breeder -- Cockapoos can be considered a powerhouse as far as dog breeds. The well bred Cockapoo is today's answer for most people seeking a dog of class, style and soundness. With an army of devoted people behind it, pushing it forward to succeed the Cockapoo is a wise purchase but may not be a good fit for all. Each breed or breed mix carries its own requirements and each dog from every breed has its own specific needs. If you are thinking about getting a dog, there is quite a lot to consider. Depending on the dog you choose, the breed and the age you may experience many changes that you might not have expected to occur. Being mindful of your lifestyle, you can find a dog that will match your personality and your way of life perfectly. However that is only if you have done the right homework and are aware of the flavor of the cake underneath the icing.
I have known some small dog breeds that require lots of exercise, say for instance big dog -vs.- little dog. An itsy bitsy Chihuahua might be bursting to run out and play and burn it's ever increasing energy, while a Great Dane with its massive frame might rather enjoy laying in an apartment relaxing by his owner's feet. Not all small breeds require less of a workout just because they're smaller than larger breeds. So it is wise to remember that not all dogs are typical to the characteristics of their breed, just because your friend owns a very relaxed Cavalier King Charles Spaniel does not mean that your Cavalier will have the exact same personality. The biggest part of owning a dog is being a responsible owner and that should start long before becoming a dog owner. Being a responsible pet owner in today's world has become extremely important; as it can help you keep peace within your community and with your neighbors and it also becomes quite necessary and very helpful with your personal relationships. I will always say to anyone who ask me about getting a dog, do as much research as you can before you even think about going out and bringing a dog home. Also think about grooming, do you have what it takes to spend the time brushing and combing your dog, if you want a full coated breed? And if you do not have the time will you be happy with paying the going rate to have your pooch look all done up? The responsibilities are numerous with just as much to consider, as there are even more points which one soon discovers when living with the breed we love. Careful planning and plenty of research, along with speaking to respectable breeders will aid in the process of becoming a great dog owner.
I know of very few things which bring me pure joy, then spending a warm lovely day in my garden accompanied by my dogs. Their unconditional love, affection and unspoken support have carried me through many difficulties. I know that my life would not be the same if not for the love of dogs. Make sure that you examine your choices before picking out a new four legged family member so that the both of you can truly enjoy not only a day but the rest of your lives together.
